As part of the massive SAR 3.4 billion mixed use development in the centre of Makkah, a high level of safety was required during the construction of a high rise residential tower which led to the specification of over 218 Safety Net Fans to provide protection for the workforce from falling objects and debris.
In an area close to the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the Jabal Omar Development project covers an area of two million square metres and involves the construction of 37 towers including residential towers, 40 hotels, a retail concourse, 58,000 square metres of prayer areas, a 2,000-seat conference hall, and related facilities. The project will be implemented in three phases and is aimed to provide accommodation and supporting facilities for visitors and residents of the holy city of Makkah.
During the construction of any building, there is no room for complacency when it comes to the risk of objects and debris becoming airborne and falling. Injuries at ground level can range from minor cuts to concussions, blindness or death, all of which can be exacerbated due to high winds on tall buildings but prevented by using the appropriate safety measures. Faced with this safety issue on the 140 metre residential tower and hotel and also having to provide edge protection for the workers at height, Combisafe provided its very latest Safety Net Fan.
The versatility of the Safety Net Fan allows for easy repositioning and attachment and is ideal for high rise protection. The Safety Net Fan is tested to comply with EN1263 and will absorb falls from up to 6 metres. The mesh density of the fall arrest net is 60 x 60mm and is delivered laced together with an extra fine 20 x 20mm debris net as standard. The combined net is able to catch and contain considerably smaller particles of debris and therefore offers complete protection for people at ground level.
