As part of the largest infrastructure project in Holland, the construction of a second bridge across the Gooimeer will widen the A6 motorway to four lanes in each direction and has led to the specification of a proven edge protection system from COMBISAFE.
The €1 billion A1/A6 improvements project by construction consortium SAAone, a cooperative venture between VolkerWessels, Boskalis, HOCHTIEF and DIF, represents a significant investment in the country’s trunk roads between Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam and Almere.
To ensure the safety of lake users and employees working at height during the construction of the 300 metre-long A6 bridge, civil engineer VolkerWessels turned to COMBISAFE to address the challenge. For the extensive concrete deck and steel works, 700 linear metres of COMBISAFE Steel Mesh Barriers were installed along each side of the bridge using adjustable safety posts and shuttering attachments.
Niels Kranenburg, structural engineer, VolkerWessels commented: “We have used COMBISAFE many times before on projects. Their systems are user-friendly, versatile and always meet our strict safety requirements.”
